Apr 26: Austin, Baby!

Enjoying another private event in Austin today. After last nights thing, I had to wake up early to play drums for another band at a frat house. I figured why not. Nothing to do but sleep from 3p-5p, Might as well make some easy cash. It was outside and boy was it hot. I wound up playing drums and singing so I'm a little zapped. So much for the Easy. But everyone knows I'm a bad, bad man who's back on the scene, baby!

When I got to the venue I was shocked to see maybe 1/4 of the lights set up and a very small sound system... no subs, that sux. The guests had fifty additonal guest so we will have to make due. No complaints because the money is the same. The venue's staff was kind enough to feed us hamburgers instead of the usual nasty box lunch. We're all fat and happy because of it so I'm not complaining, baby! Even with a small PA we rocked the house as expected. Just regular scene with some cool people and one long toast from the best man. Its nice playing at low volume every once in a while. Makes you play like an arteest instead of a beast. Grrrrrr, baby!

Apr 25: Temple Tornado

We're off to a nice start. Nasty-ass weather on the interstate. People usually won't come out in this type of weather. Four tornados we're sighted about 10 miles from where the show is so I don't expect tonight to be too exciting. As we were heading up from Austin, we drove along the western edge of this wicked storm system... this is the same one that ripped homes apart in Virginia. The sun was setting on the right so the sky was orange, blue, gray, and tornado green.

What a suprise... People all up in da house! It was nice to such a healthy crop of well endowed beauties gyrating to that thang we do. But as always when the music's over I'm standing alone on an empty dance floor. Damn. What happened to the good old days where they wanted to...well you know. Oh well. There's always the next show and then the one after that.

I'm out, baby ducks!

Apr 19: Back at the Game Ranch

Way out here at the wild game ranch in Creedmoore today for a benefit for the Ronald McDonald house. Ronald was there taking gangsta pictures with me so I figured I may as well give him one for the books.

I'll make him think I'm gonna grab his happy meal.

This was a long night of playing to no one.

At least Will and Kevin got the thrill of using top of the line digital mixers and lighting controllers. It was a kickin' system, just ask the bartender with the cowboy hat. He'll tell ya.

TC, Marc ,and Hook played a little golf during our long break. Overall it was a long night. The first two hours we played to the production crew. How thrilling! The last twenty minutes we played to a few excited people and then BAM! The night was over....Hello!?!

Apr 17: I saw a legend!

We were off tonight so here's my chance to be in the ordinary world for a night. I had the chance to watch one of the coolest shows in a long time. Buddy Guy is one of the greats, a living legend. In that two hour show I was schooled in the art of dynamics, presence, and guitar mastery. No distortion pedal and no funky costumes. Just live music with some soul and a smile. He even walked into the audience and played guitar. At one point he came up to me when singing a verse and winked at me. I took it as him appreciating me holding a torch. Maybe just my imagination but it works for me. Just when you think you've got it all down someone comes into town and shows you something new. That's one more thing I love about this old music thang!

Apr 13: Temple Music Festival

Well after last night's mild mannered show we hope this afternoons festival is gonna be banging. They've got a huge PA, large stage and the weather is fantastic. Our dressing happened to be in the old Temple Police Department squad room. Turn to your right While Train figured he'd save the tax payers some money and pay for his next booking picture. I enjoyed being in the fresh air and so did the rest of the band. We shared the stage with Austin band The Bustamovealtors. We know most of the cats in the band and it was nice to say hello to them. Mike Hale was stealing my dance moves...I'm gonna sue! With a stage this large I couldn't help acting a fool, but I've gotta give it to Selton Cole for being the rock star with his distorted bass solo's, posturing, and downright grooving. It's easy to say that everyone played like champions today. I think the vibe added to the energy for sure. Well that's enough typing. Thanks for reading. I'm out like male choir student in San Francisco!

Apr 12: Austin Wedding

Well it's the start of wedding season. Big dollars & low volume. Tonight's show is starting out as the Ying to last night's Yang. No drunk sorority girls, but many a grandma saying it's too loud when Marc is playing drums, as if he was using tooth picks for drum sticks. Once they got over the ear shock they danced all night. It takes a tremendous amount of restraint for a band like us to go from being James Brown to Art Garfunkel. Broke, out-of-work musicians call it "selling out." Cash-money-making entertainers call it "cashing in!"

Props to the best man, for delivering the best toast ever... He did his own version of Bud Light's Real American Heroes. It was a tough act to follow, but we hit 'em hard and strong. Thanks for the blue M&M's!

Apr 11: Sororities, and Why We Love 'Em

OK. I said no more fraternity parties but I never said sororities! The boys were not crazy about the idea until they learned the money was raised along with the hemlines of all the skirts. Tonight I felt like a dirty old man trying to hypnotize a bunch of misbehaving college girls. Damn it was fun! This was a great party and a bit more behaved than most, but still as naughty as most. Every break someone was in our face telling us they want us back on stage. Not out of disrespect but enthusiasm so no complaints. It was fun just playing along. I look forward to the next one. Keeps me young and hungry!

P.S. "Get-out-ta-dere!"..T.C. Cole

Apr 5: Benefit Auction, Westlake

Here we are at a well to do private school in one of the more affluent parts in the city. The weather outside is fantastic. So nice that the boys decided to drink a few cold ones outside the venue. Uh oh! School property, boys. Now we're sequestered in a school room eating some extremely uptown cuisine with high cost and debatable flavor. Guess it's better than the crappy cheese sandwiches some places have the nerve to give us. As the guests are arriving down stairs they have a red carpet and bunch of pretend paparazzi to get with the theme of the evening. That's a really cool idea. Gives the night a real Hollywood feel without the Botox. Let's just call tonight The UnUrban-Fest since we're the only urban people here tonight. Fine with me. I don't really care about the color of my audience or my band. I just like to be with fun people.

This is a large gym like thing we were playing in and they had these giant intelligent moving spotlights shining on us all night in different patterns and colors. All I can say is Damn, they're bright! Thankfully no one had a seizure on stage but that's another reason I always have shades on. Not just because I'm cool... ok, that too, but lights can be a real pain in the eyes sometimes. Not much to say about this one either except I'm home by 1AM so I'm just happy to be in bed while it's still dark.

Apr 4: Speakeasy

"Urban weekend?"

What the hell is this about? I guess the other fifty one weeks we'resuppose to "keep our place". I guess the city had enough political pressurefrom self-imposed community leaders that they had to do something to give the impression that they care for all members of the community. I'm still trying to see the benefit amongst the increased parking prices and triple Police presence downtown. I feel much safer now.

As I arrive at the Speakeasy some company is renting the venue for a party. They wanted us to play as well but wanted to pay us peanuts. Sorry! Only squirrels work for peanuts. Now the DJ is playing everything we're playing tonight, so he needs to bounce. We finally took the stage and played to the most non-urban crowd I've ever seen in Speakeasy. Train and Hook made some new friends, but outside of that the night was quiet. This is how to steal from your girlfriend's purseExcept for Hook taking a solo from the balcony. Not many people out maybe too much competition or just general fear. I mean Little Richard and George Clinton were playing in town tonight for free. Hell I wish I could have went.
