Aug 22 : Booze Cruise

This was one of those gigs that comes around once in a while that makes you glad you're in a band.

It was a private party for a great group of people, our second time aboard a swank house boat. The band sets up on the roof and we have a good 'ole time floating around on Lake Travis. After a long and sweaty load-in, we got our stuff in place for sound check... and you can see in the photo the ominous storm heading our way. Cap'n Dan decided to get in front of the rain, evidentially leaving some of the guests who didn't make it to the boat on time. This first shot is us leaving the marina, everyone was thinking the same thing: Rain and Gear don't mix. Well, there is raingear ...

About fifteen minutes later the rain hit. With the wind coming up off the water, the rain was actually falling sideways at one point, it felt like needles on the skin. "Uh, yeah, ok sure, twist my arm, and twist some lime into that margarita. Gracias." It was Jager and GMs and beers and I'm forgetting what else (for some reason). One of the guests said to us, "Y'all want a shot?"HOORAY for Will for bringing all the tarps to save the instruments from all the water. HOORAY for the bar for giving us something to do for an hour while the storm passed over. And lets not forget those fajitas... damn, life just sucks! :)

Finally the rain did stop, and we got to jamming. We played two or three sets of music and floated and drank and drank somemore. After that, is was the load-out, in the dark this time, up-hill this time, and add the number of drinks we had, it's a miracle none of our stuff didn't end up at the bottom of the lake. I'm looking forward to next year's cruise, hopefully we'll be under partly cloudy skies and an unseasonably low 85 degrees... one can dream.
